Life is a challenge, meet it !
You should be prepared to face every challenge of life with courage. Courage is the key to success. Life is bound to offer all kinds of difficulties, but you should not quail before them. Face every ordeal with fortitude. Nowadays, people get easily depressed and confused when they encounter difficulties. Depression leads to frustration. This is not the way to face the challenges of life. You should develop the courage to go through the adventure of life. Adhering to truth, cherishing love in your hearts, cultivating fortitude, face life with firm determination and steady vision. Such a life will result in fulfilment.
The rewards of life can only be got through strenuous effort.

Where there is confidence there is love, where there is love, there is peace
Detachment, faith and love – these are the pillars upon which peace rests. Of these, faith is crucial, for without it all spiritual discipline is empty. Detachment alone can make such spiritual discipline effective and love is what leads one quickly to God. Faith feeds the agony of separation from God; detachment canalises it along the path of God, and love lights the way. God will grant you what you need and deserve; there is no need to ask, no reason to grumble. Be content. Nothing can happen against His will.

Character
Character is the fragrance of the flower; it gives value and worth. Poets, painters, artists and scientists may each be great in their own field, but without character they can have no true standing. One may wonder whether all those who are now treated with respect by society have a character that entitles them to being considered great, but society is subject to fashions that vary from day to day. The basic nature of a flawless character is eternal, and remains the same whatever the vicissitudes of society.
Among the qualities that make up a flawless character are love, patience, forbearance, steadfastness, charity – these are the highest, these have to be revered.

Reduce Your Wants
Constantly discriminate between the Preya-Marga and the Sreya-Marga,the Pleasant ath and the Good Path. You will have to do this again and again every time the mind tempts you to follow the ways of the world, to imitate others. This desire to imitate others is exceedingly powerful and overpowers even a wise man. Worry not about finding money to buy a scooter (when you have no need for a scooter)just because all your friends come on scooters. Do not bother about how to send your son to the States only because your neighbors have sent their kids to California and Cambridge. Keep away from temptations of all sorts. Do not walk into places of temptation and then struggle to resist temptation. It will tax your will unnecessarily.
Even if you succeed in resisting the temptation, it may leave a craving in the mind. Craving induces restlessness.
Do not multiply your wants and then feel like a beggar. Reduce your wants and feel like a king. Why should you enter a cloth shop and see many varieties presented before your eyes when you have enough clothing at home? Either you will buy unnecessary things. Or feel sad, "Oh, I don't have this. Ah, how I wish I could buy that!" Peace of mind and material greed are incompatibles. They do not go
together. Make your choice.
Reduce your wants to the barest minimum consistent with your general external activities. The fewer the wants and possessions the greater the peace of mind. Possession gives pain. The point is so obvious that it needs no explanation. Hire a taxi rather than own a car. Live in a rented flat rather than possess your own house.
Most of us suffer, not for want of right knowledge or wisdom, but for want of exercise of that wisdom in our daily life. If you want peace of mind, at once stop doing all those things which you know you should not do. And, equally important, start doing all those things which you know you should do. This will set you on the right track, and when you are on the right track, God's Grace will flow into your life and make it more and more sublime. You will gain peace of mind and radiate peace all around you.
Faith has to be exercised.
Love has to be exercised.
Selflessness has to be exercised.
Charity has to be practiced.
Dispassion has to be practiced.
Devotion has to be cultivated.
These qualities, these virtues do not arise, in you over night. They have to be assiduously cultivated before they can become a natural, a habitual, an integral
part of your being.

Definition of Happiness
Man wants happiness. He shuns pain. He moves heaven and earth to get the happiness he wants from sensual objects, and lo, gets himself entangled in the extricable meshes of Maya. Poor man! He does not know that these objects are perishable and evanescent, finite and conditioned in time, space, and causation. And what is more, he fails to get the desired happiness from them. Sensual pleasure is tantalizing. There is enchantment so long as man does not possess the objects. The moment he is in possession of the object, the charm vanishes. He finds that he is in entanglement.
A worldly man is always drowned in sorrow. He is ever struggling to get something, some money, some power, some position, and so on. He is always anxious as to whether or not he would get it. Even when he is in actual possession of the thing he so passionately longed for, he is very anxious lest he should lose it.
A rich man has great wealth, but he has no children. And so he is pained at heart. A poor man has fourteen children, but he has nothing to eat, and so he is miserable. One man has wealth and
children, but his son is a vagabond, and so he is worried. One man has riches and good sons, but his wife is very quarrelsome. No one is happy in this world.
You cannot have pleasure without pain. Wherever there is pleasure, there is pain. You vainly seek pleasure in gold, in women (or men in the case of women), in this mundane existence. You cannot have absolute happiness in a relative physical plane of pairs of opposites. The pairs of opposites rotate in their turn. Death follows life. Night follows day. Light follows darkness. Pain
follows pleasure.
Pleasure and pain are two names for one thing. They are two aspects of one thing. For a worldly man without philosophical knowledge, they appear as two different entities.
Real happiness is within you. It is in the Atman. It is subjective. It manifests when the mind is concentrated. When the Indriyas are withdrawn from the objects outside, when the mind is one-pointed, when there is Vasana-kshya and Manonasa, when you become desireless and thoughtless, Atmic bliss begins to dawn, spiritual Ananda begins to thrill. The musk is in the navel of the deer, but it runs here and there to smell it. The chain is in the neck of the damsel, but she runs hither and thither in search of it. The precious diamond is within you, but you run after the broken glass-pieces in vain. Even so, the ocean of bliss is within you; the fountain of joy is within you; and yet, you run here and there in search of it. The Sun of suns is ever shining in you, but your blind eyes cannot behold it. The eternal sound is ringing within you, but your deaf ears cannot hear it.
Spiritual bliss is the highest bliss. Spiritual bliss is bliss of one's own Soul. It is transcendental bliss. It is independent of objects. It is continuous, uniform and eternal. It is enjoyed by the sage only.
This world is a mere appearance. Mind and the senses are deceiving you every moment. You have mistaken pain for pleasure. There is not even an iota of happiness in this sense-universe. Abandon these selfish struggles and schemes for amassing wealth. March directly to that wire-puller who is moving these toys of fleshy human bodies, who is keeping up this big show. In Him only you will find lasting happiness and perennial joy. Merge in Him by practicing daily meditation and japa.
